ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry welcomed the government’s not accepting the 17th amendment carried out in the previous rule and that the NRO was moved in Parliament on the principle of distribution of power.In his remarks during the hearing of NRO petitions, the Chief Justice of Pakistan said the NRO will be reviewed only in the light of the Constitution.Attorney General was issued a notice in connection with summoning the former president Pervez Musharraf on the matter of ratification of NRO by the previous federal cabinet.The NAB counsel told the court that NAB and Federation will jointly provide details of President Zardari’s Swiss case. The court rejected this and sought the details only from chairman NAB.In today’s hearing, the counsels of petitioners Abdul Hafiz Pirzada, Akram Chaudhry and Dr. Farooq Hasan completed their arguments and prayed that NRO be declared null and void.The counsel of the Federation, Barrister Kamal Azfar said the court should restrict itself to the petition of Dr. Mubashir in which he has prayed for declaring NRO void.For the first time during the hearing of NRO petitions, the NRO was defended in the court, as Ibrahim Satti, counsel of former FIA official Afzal Butt, presented arguments in support of the ordinance. He said the former president promulgated the law by using his powers. On this, Justice Ramday asked if a president promulgates an ordinance turning himself a king, will that not be challenged?Later, the hearing was adjourned till Monday.
