Terrorists cannot scare people, will be chased everywhere: Kaira

ISLAMABAD—Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira has said that the terrorists cannot scare the people by their heinous crimes and reaffirmed the determination of the Government chased them out in all parts of the country. “Our law enforcement agencies and other forces will not leave terrorists any where and will be eliminated” Responding to newsmen questions Sunday about the imminent operation in South Waziristan, he made it clear that these operations are not against any tribe or area but aimed at eliminating terrorists. About the GHQ operation, the Information Minister said it has been concluded successfully by the Army commandos. He said the attack on GHQ was not a secuirty lapse as the terrorists were confronted at the first security check post. To a question, he said the Kerry-Lugar bill is being debated in the Parliament and the house will take a final decision over it He said the present government has given self empowerment to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan which was being denied to them for long. He said the new governance system in the area will not undermine Pakistan's stance on Kashmir. To a question Kamar Zaman Kaira said that Pakistan stands for peace in the region and peace in Afghanistan is in the interest of Pakistan. The Minister clarified that the government has not imposed curbs on any TV channel and all of them have full freedom to air their news and programmes. Earlier, addressing a seminar on " Role of South Asian women in the media: opportunities and challenges", he said the PPP government believes in the freedom of media and is facilitating them to function smoothly. He said the electronic media has witnessed a mushroom growth in recent years and entry of women journalists in it is a healthy trend. He said steps are also being taken for the provision of opportunities for women journalists in all the state media institutions. Referring to the challenges faced by the country, Information Minister said confronting terrorism is the top agenda of the government and all resources will be employed with the support of the people to wipe out the menace. He said the government has taken bold steps in the war against terrorism and the role of media has also remained exemplary for creating a consensus among the masses against extremist elements. Referring to Pak-India relations, he said Pakistan wants good neighbourly relations with India for lasting peace in the region and to achieve success in the war on terrorism. He reiterated Pakistan's commitment for the resolution of all core issues with India including Kashmir through the dialogue process. Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Qamar Zaman Kaira Friday said Pakistan is committed to wiping out terrorism from the country and continue chasing terrorists till the total annihilation of last terrorist. Peace in the country is in our own interest and Pakistan would leave no stone unturned to eliminate terrorists and their abodes nothing matter where situated, he said while addressing a ceremony held here for curtain raiser of drama serial focusing War on Terror ‘Khuda Zameen Se Gaya Nahin.’ The Minister said the whole nation and all political parties are united against terrorism and added the entire nation extend fullest support to the security forces engaged in purging the country from terrorists.
