
ON BOARD PM’S SPECIAL AIRCRAFT, Oct 12 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Monday said “important decisions” will be taken on national security issues, in consultation with the civil and military leadership.Talking to a media team accompanying him on board his special aircraft to China, the prime minister said he has had detailed discussions with the Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvaiz Kiyani on important security matters.He again condemned the attack on the GHQ and said important decisions will be taken to strengthen national security.
When asked about his foremost priority, Gilani said, “I want to resolve the Balochistan issue as a priority.”
He said he plans to hold a debate on the situation in Balochistan at a joint sitting of the parliament and to discuss administrative, economic and constitutional issues relating to the province.
Regarding the Kerry Lugar bill the prime minister said apart from some controversial clauses, the legislation has some broad-based positive points.
He said he has taken the civil and military leadership into confidence and the outcome of the debate in the parliament in the form of a resolution will be forwarded to the US government.
When asked which tier of the government would decide about the fate of Kerry Lugar bill, he said the whole nation stands united and it was not confined to any one person.
About his forthcoming talks with the Chinese leaders he said he would discuss security, defence, education and health matters during his meetings.
The prime minister said Pakistan would also try to upgrade its status from observer to permanent at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). He said the issues of security were having an impact on the entire region and the world needed concerted efforts to resolve these.
Gilani also urged the world to realise the role Pakistan was playing in the war against terror and help it in its capacity building.
