Fire hits hospital kitchen

A hospital kitchen, dining room and service areas were badly damaged in a blaze.
Five fire crews were called to Birmingham’s Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Bristol Road South, Northfield at about 6.30 last night.
Hospital bosses said today an investigation into the cause would be carried out. No-one had to be evacuated.
Liz Heath, hospital spokeswoman, said: “No patient, clinical or ward areas were affected and there were no casualties. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
“The hospital is functioning normally in terms of seeing and treating patients.
“Access to part of the site is restricted and this may make parking difficult.
“We ask that patients and visitors bear with us during Friday and over the weekend.”
She added: “Every ward has its own kitchen area so patients have been served breakfast as normal this morning and we will be putting plans in place to ensure meals are served to patients during the day as usual.”
